Noridian Healthcare Solutions (Noridian) is proud to play a role in one of the nation’s most important suicide prevention efforts for Veterans. Through the Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program (SSG Fox SPGP)—a three-year, community-based initiative led by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA)—local organizations are delivering life-saving services to Veterans and their families. As a subcontractor to Verve, LLC, a service-disabled Veteran- and women-owned small business, Noridian supports the implementation of this critical program across the country.
Established in honor of Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon Fox, a sniper instructor at the U.S. Army Infantry School at Fort Benning, Georgia, the program commemorates his life of service, compassion, and generosity. Fox died by suicide in 2020 at the age of 25. The grant program that bears his name provides funding and guidance to local organizations offering outreach, mental health screenings, clinical care, housing support, and more to Veterans and their families.
Enabling Outreach at the Local Level
Together with Verve, Noridian helps grantees and VA staff navigate the operational and educational components of the program. We develop training materials, lead educational sessions, and provide ongoing technical assistance on topics including:
- Community outreach and engagement
- Eligibility and enrollment requirements
- Mental health screening best practices
- VA benefit navigation
- Clinical and support services
Our goal is to ensure that community-based organizations on the ground have the tools and support they need to serve Veterans efficiently and effectively.
Lives Touched by the Program
Public testimony from a recent congressional hearing revealed powerful, touching stories that truly illustrate the life-saving impact of the SSG Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program.
One story shared by a physician involved a young, pregnant Veteran who had fled a domestic violence situation. After connecting with a community-based organization through the program, she was enrolled in prenatal care and other VA healthcare services. She is quoted as saying, “I could not have survived without your help.”
A Marine Corps Veteran struggling with combat-related trauma, sought help from a grantee while experiencing suicidal thoughts. After receiving support, he admitted that he had already engaged in steps toward ending his life; he says that the services saved his life.
Another Veteran described how the program intervened when he felt most alone: “I would like to say thank you for keeping your word and coming through in my time of need. I wasn’t getting any support from anywhere and they came in and saved me, saved my whole year. I was depressed, I was upset, I was thinking about suicide. And I just want to say thank you.”
These are just a few of the lives touched by the SSG Fox SPGP—thousands more have found hope and healing through the program across the country. Noridian is honored to support the program’s continued growth and impact. To play even a small part in helping Veterans find safety, connection, and hope means everything to us.
